Sunn Buzz (clone)

The Sunn Buzz was a fuzz pedal introduced by Sunn in 1966 and ended production in 1968. It's nearly impossible to find one any more and if you are lucky enough to find one, you'll pay a small fortune for it (the last one sold for $1000!). The original plugged directly into your guitar or bass's output jack and it's output with a cable to your amp.

It's circuit is very similar to the original Maestro FZ1 and was also powered by a single 1.5 volt AA battery, but instead of using three germanium transistors, it used three 2N2923 silicon ones. The "gain" control is the volume, and the "effect" is the fuzz control. Like the Maestro it was a very thin and bright fuzztone but I modified my version and included a mini slide switch inside of it to enable it to retain the low end. I recently acquired some original vintage NOS 2N2923 transistors from the 60's that are the EXACT same ones used in the original so I'm going to offer one build for order. My version runs on a standard center negative power supply like a Boss or a 1spot using an internal 1.5 volt regulator to convert 9 volts to 1.5 volts required for the circuit. It comes in a polished and etched 1590B with all top jacks and has a relayed true bypass.
